![]() Excite is another search engine that has teamed up with LookSmart. LookSmart offers an Express Submit form ($199) in which they guarantee your site to be reviewed within 48 hours - this does not guarantee acceptance. LookSmart also offers an 8-week submission form for $79. These two methods guarantee a review of your site and if accepted you will be indexed with LookSmarts network of Search Engines, which includes: MSN, Excite, and Alta Vista. Excite still offers a free submission. Follow the guidelines below and you should see your site indexed in about 4-6 weeks. Suppose you want users searching for "Hawaiian Bed and Breakfasts" to find your site among the first 20 sites retrieved. Simply adding, removing, or changing a few sentences on your homepage can alter the way their spider indexes you. The design tip is simple: Relegate unrelated topics to subsidiary pages. If you're advertising your Hawaiian Bed and Breakfast, don't use the homepage to emphasize price, the way the ocean looks from a bedroom window, or your famous pineapple rum concoction. Instead, keep it simple: Emphasize bed, breakfast, Hawaii, and vacation. In general, their spider does not honor metatags. This means that they do not index the content of the metatag. They will still index the body text of a page even if metatags are present. However, they have one exception to their "no meta tag" rule. Excite now includes meta descriptions when a meta description is present on a page and when it contains valid text about the page it is on. The meta description tag is used to return an abstract of the page (written by the Web publisher) instead of the summary that Excite would gather from the full text of that page. If your site is framed based take advantage of your no frames tag and include a descriptive paragraph of your site there. To go directly to Excite's Submit Page Click Here! |
